Transformer/Oil Testing

The customer owned transformers that provide power for your facility are the "heart" of the electrical system.
Without inspection and regular testing of your transformers it can only be a guess as to when you will experience a failure. Regular inspection and oil analysis are the best way to avoid inconvenient downtime due to unexpected failure of the transformer.

Regular oil testing can track the life cycle of your transformer. Transformer internal components wear with age. The cellulose insulation in the transformer deteriorates at different rates depending on the amount of load, type of load, as well as unexpected situations. Lightning strikes and short circuits can also add to the aging of a transformer.

Transformer oil testing looks at the quality of the oil. We look at the moisture level, acidity, color clarity, and the insulating value of the oil.

Our basic annual tests include oil quality analysis and dissolved gas analysis. Dissolved gas analysis detects aging cellulose insulation, loose connections, and immediate failure conditions. This information may be verified by using infrared testing.

Buist Electric Testing will track your transformers through the years and give recommendations on our findings as well as show the results from the previous test for comparison.

Complete documentation of your transformer is included. We provide both a hard-copy and a Microsoft Excel document that you can e-mail to anyone else who may need to view the report. To find out more about transformer oil testing, or to get more information on any of our other testing tools, contact the number below and one of our technicians will be glad to answer any questions you may have.
